Internships
Our intern program provides individuals interested in organic farming a truly hands-on experience at our urban CSA farm and educational facility located in Tampa, Florida. We welcome interns to work with us at Sweetwater from mid-September through the beginning of June. We harvest fruit and vegetables November through May.
We offer hands-on learning opportunities in exchange for hard work and dedication to our organization and mission, as well as a share of organic farm produce. Through a Sweetwater internship, there are ample opportunities to learn about organic vegetable farming, operating a CSA, and educating the public about farming. Intern tasks may include preparing beds for planting, planting, weeding, seeding, harvesting, helping with building projects, setting up and running our farmers' market, and leading educational tours of the farm. We prefer that our interns stay for at least 3 months, but short-term visits can be arranged. There will be a 1-month trial evaluation period after which we will sit down and talk about whether we both think that the farm is a good place for you. We are looking for dedicated people with a genuine interest in organic agriculture, sustainable living, hard work, and fun!
For the 2008-09 season, we have some unpaid internships available for those with their own housing here in Tampa. Unpaid interns work 20 hours/week and in return receive a half-share of produce, monthly educational discussions and hands-on learning opportunities.
